COVID-19 COACHING OPERATIONS PLAN

Love Open Water are committed to preserving the health of our customers and staff.
Following the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 (Coronavirus) in the United Kingdom, we have performed
contagious-virus specific risk assessments at our venues and have been closed since March.

In preparation for reopening our London Royal Docks venue once restrictions are lifted, the following coaching plan is proposed.

1. Compulsory pre-booking of all coaching courses
All customers will be required to pre-book onto dedicated coaching time slots via Eventrac. Payment must be made through the Eventrac system to ensure no cash or card transactions are required on site.

2. Controlled attendance limited to 6-8 people per course
Time slots will be an hour and a half and will include at least 45mins in the water. We ask customers arrive at least 15mins in advance or their course to register and in the case of those hiring wetsuits 30mins in advance.

3. The gate will be opened at the allocated start time of the course
This Covid-19 ops plan will be read out to each course group. All swimmers will be required to be on time in order to be in attendance for the briefing.
The coaching line will have markers placed 2m apart. Swimmers will be registered whilst queuing before being directed to the coaching area on the top of the pontoon. Please check the weather prior to arrival and make sure you are dressed appropriately as the coaching area is not covered. This includes ensuring you have suncream and a drink on a hot day!

4. The gate will be closed ten minutes past the allocated start time of the course
There will be no late admissions and no refunds after this time, even if the swimmer is changing on the bank as they will have missed the safety briefing. This is to ensure all groups get their maximum time in the water and that that it is safe for both swimmers and staff.
Following briefing and registration, the gate staff will be required to relocate to provide water safety for the swimmers. This is to not only ensure the physical safety of swimmers but to ensure social distancing measures are followed in the water.

5. Customers will give their name verbally to gate staff to confirm their booking
Staff will check customers in to the system remotely on confirmation of no temperature and assign a coaching bag-drop station.

6. Changing for course customers is to be done on the pontoon in allocated changing and bag drop stations 2m apart
The coach will be available to provide advice on fitting wetsuits from a distance and will provide a demonstration.
Wetsuit hire is available for courses only. Any wetsuit hire requests must be made in advance of the coaching session and the £10 hire fee paid so that we can ensure there is a clean and disinfected wetsuit available.

7. As well as the course coach there will be one on-water lifeguard
SWIMMING WILL BE AT THE INDIVIDUALS OWN RISK. In the case of a rescue, staff will only be able to use no-contact rescues such as a torpedo buoy tow so please exercise care when swimming. Be mindful of your own ability and boundaries and don’t push it!
Open water swimming is very different to pool swimming and comes with more
prevalent risks. Those new to open water including pool-swimmers are strongly advised to attend an open water introduction and skills course.
Those suffering from serious medical conditions in particular related to the heart or those at risk of seizers are advised not to swim for their own safety and that of our staff.
The staff will reserve the right to refuse entry should they be concerned that a customer’s swimming ability or health is a potential danger to themselves and/ or others.

8. Customers will have at least 45mins coaching time in the water
There will be separate entry and exit points to the water via step ladders which will be approached one at a time.
The courses will be conducted in a designated coaching area away from the main
swimming area. The coach will predominantly be in the water with the group to provide demonstrations and support but will maintain 2meter distance.

9. Social-Distancing in the water
Swimmers will be instructed to maintain a 2meter distance from one another at all times and adjust their speed/ direction accordingly.
Tow floats will be made available so that the customer has something to hold on to and float whilst listening to the course instructions.

10. All changing to be done within the allocated station or on the bank
If the customer decides to exit before the end of the allocated course session time, they can do so by exiting via the allocated steps and returning to their coaching/ bag drop station to change.
Customers can let themselves out of the gate, closing it behind them. There will be hand gel for sanitisation following touching the gate.
The coaching and bag drop stations must be cleared by the end of the course to allow for sanitisation before the next group.

11. The pontoon is to be sprayed with disinfectant after each swim is completed
Bag drop stations to be disinfected once all swimmers have vacated and prior to the next group being processed.

Walk-Up Policy
There will be no pay-on-the-day or tap-in slots available. All swimmers must pre-book so that we can manage the numbers on site accurately.

Refund Policy
There will be no refunds if an individual fails to show for their booking. Demand for places will be high and so not showing for a slot takes away the opportunity for another member to swim.

Equipment Hire
Wetsuit hire will only be available to course attendees given the limited stock and the requirement to properly clean and disinfect between uses.

Toilets
There are no toilets on site and all public ones currently closed so please plan ahead or be prepared to Christen your wetsuit!
