All our coaches are qualified and offer years of experience in training and events. They are all passionate about the sport and can cater to all levels of open water swimmers – from beginners to elite athletes. Collectively they have trained hundreds of swimmers to help achieve their goals.

Vikki is a STA qualified open water coach and accomplished marathon swimmer since 2016. She is an advocate for the physical and mental benefits of open water swimming and, as an NHS midwife, has published guidance on safe swimming in pregnancy and the postnatal period, as well as running introduction to cold water courses to boost morale amongst local NHS staff. Vikki has a passion for sharing all aspects of cold water education with those who are new to open water swimming.

Justin is a highly engaged and driven Swim England Level 2 Open Water Swimming Coach and Swimming Teacher, and a Fellow of the Institute Of Swimming. Swimming is his passion, his driver for fitness, focus and strength. He brings a unique mix of technical expertise and experience from a lifetime in the water. His coaching draws on his knowledge from long distance sea swims in the English Channel and the fjords of Norway, competing in open water events and swimming galas, and playing water polo internationally. Always in the water and on the move, Justin will swim alongside you throughout your time in the water, continually providing you with support, feedback and stroke correction, ensuring you develop strong open water swimming techniques and reach your full potential.

Annette is STA qualified and a British triathlon coach who has been helping swimmers at Nottingham for the past three years. In 2016, Annette entered her first half iron man and her love for open water swimming has grown ever since. She has taken part in several triathlons and swim events including a solo one way crossing of Lake Windermere. Annette’s coaching aim is to support and coach new swimmers into the open water and help develop the skills they need to make their dreams of the open water come true.

Tamsin is our accredited STA OWS head coach for our London venues. She has been coaching with us for the last 4 years and has helped coach hundreds of swimmers improve their technique and confidence in open water. Tamsin completed her first open water race 8 years ago and has since gone on to complete swim marathons including the Thames Marathon, Vidösternsimmet 21k+ and a channel relay. Tamsin is passionate about open water swimming and loves to help swimmers start on their outdoor swimming journey and developing the skills they need to get the edge in events.

Swimmer and coach, you’ll regularly see Katie in the water too. Her background is in competitive indoor swimming, turned open water and ice water lover. Proud to be on Great Britain’s Ice Water swimming team, medalling 2nd and 3rd in her age group at the 2023 world championships. She is keen to help out those new to open water grow confidence and kindle a love for it. As well as share racing experience and technique for those looking to train towards events and competitive swimming.

Sam has been a STA coach at Love Open Water for over a year now and loves working with people who are just starting their open water journey to experienced swimmers who would like to improve. He loves helping swimmers get prepared for events and has competed himself in River dart 10k, bantham Swoosh, Great North swim 5km, Dock2Dock 5k, beat the tide 4km, Olympic Triathlons and sprint triathlons.

For those who love open water and want to promote and share their passion by coaching swimmers in an open water environment, STA’s Open Water Swimming Coaching qualification will prepare learners for all aspects of open water swimming coaching, from planning, coaching and evaluating open water swimming sessions. This qualification also meets CIMSPA’s employer-led coach professional standard and is regulated by Ofqual. The STA Level 2 Open Water Coaching course is offered by NOWCA in partnership with Comfort Academy, and hosted at our venue at London Royal Docks.
