POSITION: Venue Support

HOURLY RATE: from £12.25 per hour

Safety at Love Open Water venues is our top priority. 

Our venue team are essential to this safety. We are looking for responsible, vigilant, confident team members to join our fantastic open water swimming venues. 

Working at our venues will involve you helping to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all our swimmers. The main purpose of the safety team is to closely supervise swimming activities and promote safe swimming. We are looking for people to support the on-water safety team who will interact with swimmers in a positive, friendly way. Each of our open water swimming venues has its own unique community and you will be an integral part of this at your venue. 

You will be positioned shoreside in your role and be responsible for greeting swimmers on arrival and checking them in and out using our integrated safety system.  You will regularly communicate with lifeguards on swimmer numbers in the water as part of our collaborative approach to swimmer safety. You will also be required to act as a dryside spotter on occasion during swim sessions. 

As the first point of contact for swimmers, you will need a good understanding of the venue safety procedures and policies and be confident in communicating and implementing these at the venue. 

By assisting the venue or duty manager in the preparation, running and shut down of sessions, you will gain additional knowledge in open water swimming and the site itself that you will be encouraged to share with our swimmers, building the relationship between staff and customers. 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervising the venue reception and supporting swim activities, ensuring safety procedures, guidelines and policies are followed 
  • Dealing with enquiries from the general public
  • Identifying potential risks which may impact swimmer, staff and visitor safety 
  • Assisting the duty manager / venue manager / lifeguards in the event of an emergency 
  • Preparing and checking venue equipment / stock 
  • Communicating with other team members on shift 
  • Assisting in setup/shut down of venue 
  • Customer care and education 
  • Safety systems knowledge and operation 
  • Venue and water cleaning and maintenance 
  • Logging hours / honest timekeeping 
  • Collecting payments for merchandise sales / hire equipment 

 

KEY ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

Whilst there is no formal qualification required for this role, you must be a competent swimmer and comfortable working around water. 

You should have a willingness to undertake a thorough site induction and ongoing training to complement our on-water safety team 

Water Rescue Equipment Training (WRET) qualification desirable but not essential (training will be provided) 

Watercraft (kayak, paddle or rescue board) proficiency desirable but not essential (training will be provided) 

First Aider at Work accreditation is highly desirable but not essential 

RYA2 desirable but not essential 

 

KEY PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A passion for swimming, customer service and peoples’ safety 
  • Good physical fitness with the strength to help people from the water 
  • Confident and assertive with good communication skills 
  • The ability to be flexible and adapt to change 
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm in stressful situations and dynamically assess the environment in the event of an emergency

CAREER PROGRESSION:

All venue staff will have the opportunity over time to upskill to OWL and become a Duty Manager.
